Perfume: Taylor Swift Wonderstruck

I’m not sure why, but I find myself using perfume more than usual when the weather is warmer. Maybe it’s my subconscious telling me that wearing perfume in the heat would help conceal any unpleasant smells, or I simply like the way perfume sprays on to my skin.. either way, summer is definitely my favourite perfume spraying season.

I love all sorts of perfumes, from luxurious ones to highstreet one’s.. From Chanel to Britney Spears. Actually speaking of Britney Spears, her perfume ‘Fantasy’ still lives in my perfume collection and brings back lovely memories of my fifteen year old self. I actually still remember where I was, what I was doing when I first smelt Fantasy, funny how perfumes can evoke such reactions from you. Well when I heard that Elizabeth Arden (who bought out Britney’s perfumes) where bringing out on by Taylor Swift, I really wanted to get my hands on it and find out whether it would appeal to me as much as the others.

The positive side of working with PR companies is that sometimes you get a glance at all the work behind the product, and for this perfume I got just that. I was pleasantly surprised to see just how much of an influence Taylor was behind her perfume, she had creative control and Elizabeth Arden didn’t simply stick her face on their product (which I assumed many companies do!). For example, the name ‘Wonderstruck’ came from one of Taylor’s own song.. ‘I’m wonderstruck, blushing all the way home’. The design of the bottle, the colour, the unique glow the bottle has all comes from Taylor’s selection of old vintage/antique bottles she likes to collect. That personal connection between Taylor and the perfume is really nice to witness, I’ve never seen that with any other celebrity perfumes and I hope all the buyers get to see it too and not just the beauty journos!

On to the scent, let me start by saying.. I am so bad at describing fragrance so please bear with me, I shall try my best! After the perfume settled on my skin, I could smell slight vanilla scents and flowery, and feminine scents also. Apparently the heart of the perfume contains vanilla, honeysuckle and hibiscus so that must be what I was smelling. The perfume also has notes of sandalwood, golden amber, freesia, apple blossom and raspberry. Other than fresesia  the rest didn’t pop out to me as much, but I guess everyone has a unique sense of smell so what might be picked up by me may be missed by the person next to me and vice versa. The perfume slightly reminds me of  Britney’s Fanatasy, it’s sweet and feminine and very girly. I find this to be a daytime fragrance, and especially a summer one. I prefer deeper, more woody scents for winter but this for me is the perfect daytime summer fragrance.

The bottle is so charming, from the little charms and the embossed cap.. it does look rather enchanting.  I can definitely see this being a hit for many, especially teenage girls and the Taylor Swift fan base. I do hope they get to see all her inspiration behind the perfume and the role she played in creating it. Even the packaging, a patchwork design, was inspired by all the gorgeous fabrics Taylor had picked up in her travels, and I have to admit I do love her taste. She reminds me of a princess, really and truly and the bottle definitely would fit into a disney fairytale! The perfume is out now and my size (30ml) is just £20. I can see this being a lot for Christmas.

I hope you liked my little fragrance review, sorry I’ve been a bit missing in action I’ve had a lot going on in my personal life. As blogging is an outlet for me I will try to make more of an effort. I thought I’d do a perfume post, as I have so many and I like to read people’s opinions on perfumes. As this post was on affordable perfume, my next perfume post will be on a luxury perfume brand, so keep and eye out for that!

Music & Me

I was flicking through quite a few of my old post and I’ve noticed that although I talk lots about products and brands I like.. I don’t really talk much about myself. Considering the fact that I wanted this to be a lifestyle blog as well as a beauty blog, I’ve decided to change that and start adding bits of my personality every now and again.

I love lyrics, poems and sayings. I always have and I guess I should have known from an early age that I was going to take English at University. It was obvious to everyone who knew me, everyone other than myself that is. I love analysing and interpreting poems and songs etc and twisting them around until they suit my mood and life one way or another.  Funnily enough although I’m quite positive with life and happy the majority of the time, it’s the devastating, sad, depressing and tragic poems/songs/sayings that appeal to me. Throw me a song about heartbreak, and I’m bound to love it. My heart would be furtherest away from breaking point at the time, but that wouldn’t matter as the tragedy would appeal to me. I know, I am slightly crazy and extremely dramatic!

When I was younger, I’m talking around about 14 years old, I had a little folder full of clippings of my favourite sayings which I lovingly printed from our computer when my father wasn’t around as I used to waste so much ink! I’ve still got that folder, still got those clippings and they still strike me as much as they did when I was an adolescent. I feel like I lost so much of my young carefree self as I grew up and it does make me smile that some things never change. I’ve decided that I’m going to create a virtual clipping folder, and use this blog for that purpose. It’s about time I injected more of my personality into here! So without further ado, here is clipping number one:

Untitled 1 1024x682 Music & Me This particular quote is from ‘Love the way you lie (part two)- Rihanna’

I love how descriptive it is, how far away from the norm it is.. it describes lies as ‘fables’ and how strong sounding words such as ‘sick’ make the lyrics themselves sound violent, like the scene she is trying to describe. Without getting too technical, I simply love it.

Wordless Wednesday

Hi lovelies, this is a bit of a different Wordless Wednesday post as I’m not remaining entirely ‘wordless’.

Saying that however, I spoke a lot of going to Bournemouth/Cornwall
and didn’t show you all any pictures at all as it was a family break
and not everyone was comfortable having the pictures published!
I did find some pretty scenery pictures from Cornwall and thought
you may like a peek. It was absolutely magical and felt so far away
from the England I’m used to. Do ignore my makeup-less face!
